Rocky Hill Weddings & Events: A Wedding Venue Guide

There’s something a little magical about walking out onto Rocky Hill’s ceremony deck and realizing you’re standing among the treetops.

Located in White Salmon, Washington, just across the Columbia River from Hood River, Rocky Hill Weddings & Events has one of the most memorable ceremony spaces I’ve photographed. The deck extends into the surrounding trees, creating a setting that feels surprisingly intimate even with a full group of wedding guests.

I recently photographed a wedding here, and what stood out to me beyond the ceremony space was how well the rest of the property worked for the celebration. There’s a shaded hydrangea garden for portraits, manicured lawns surrounding the outdoor patio, and an indoor reception hall where guests can enjoy dinner before heading back outside to dance.

If you’re considering a Rocky Hill wedding, here’s what I’d want you to know about the venue, the different spaces, and what it’s actually like to photograph a wedding here.

One of my favorite things about Rocky Hill is how much variety you get without having to leave the property. You can get married among the trees, have cocktails on the patio, enjoy dinner inside, and head back outdoors for dancing. That’s exactly how the couple I photographed used the space, and the transitions felt easy throughout the evening.

Getting Married on Rocky Hill’s Tree Deck

The ceremony deck is easily the standout feature of Rocky Hill Weddings & Events. It extends out into the surrounding forest, so when you’re standing at the altar, you’re genuinely among the trees.

And having photographed a ceremony here, I can tell you it’s just as beautiful from the guests’ perspective. There’s something special about sitting beneath the trees, watching two people get married with all that greenery surrounding them. The setting does so much on its own, giving you a beautiful starting point to make the ceremony feel like yours. You could lean into the forest or bring in something completely unexpected. With so much greenery surrounding the deck, colorful florals would create a stunning contrast.

The deck has a presence that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. It’s the kind of ceremony space your guests will remember, and one that makes an incredible backdrop for the photographs you’ll return to for years.

Cocktail Hour, Dinner & Dancing at Rocky Hill

One thing I really appreciated about Rocky Hill was how naturally the celebration moved between spaces.

At the wedding I photographed, guests headed to the lower patio for cocktail hour after the ceremony. There’s a beautifully manicured lawn alongside it, with plenty of room for lawn games and mingling. The couple had a DJ and bartenders set up outside, and one of my favorite little details was the custom drinks with their initials burned into the orange peels.

Dinner took place upstairs in the indoor reception hall, which has a more industrial feel than the rest of the property. It’s a space you could have a lot of fun styling, and the air conditioning was especially appreciated on a warm wedding day. After dinner, everyone headed back down to the patio for dancing. I loved that the couple could enjoy dinner inside and still have an outdoor dance party surrounded by trees. There’s also a firepit with seating around it that I would love to see couples take full advantage of. It’s such a good spot for guests to settle in with a drink and catch up away from the dance floor.

Having these different spaces gives the evening a really natural rhythm. Guests can move between dancing, conversation, and enjoying the property without feeling like they have to choose one way to spend the night.

The Best Wedding Photo Locations at Rocky Hill

One of my favorite things about photographing at Rocky Hill is how many beautiful locations are tucked into the property. The landscaping is so thoughtfully maintained that you can get a ton of variety in your photos without spending half of cocktail hour walking around looking for it.

The Hydrangea Garden

This might be my favorite portrait location on the entire property. There’s a little garden surrounded by hydrangeas, with pathways curving around either side. It’s where my couple chose to have their first look, and it worked beautifully. The surrounding trees provide plenty of shade, which is especially helpful for first looks that often happen in the middle of the day. You get soft, flattering light without needing to wait until sunset.

There’s also another little pocket of pink hydrangeas with a stone walkway running between them that caught my eye. I photographed a few bridal portraits here, and I loved how the flowers naturally framed the scene. It’s such a beautiful spot for an individual portrait, and I’d love to explore it even more at a future wedding.

The Manicured Lawns & Garden Paths

Rocky Hill’s grounds are beautifully maintained, and photographically, that’s such an advantage. There are clean stretches of lawn, garden paths, and trees that give us plenty of different backdrops within a short walk. We can create a gallery that feels varied without keeping you away from your guests for too long. Even the stairs connecting the reception hall to the lower patio are worth using. I love finding little in-between spots like that, especially when they give us an opportunity for something more candid or editorial.

Sunset Through the Trees

The evening light at Rocky Hill is incredible when it starts coming through the trees. One thing I noticed while photographing here is that the property loses direct sunlight a little earlier than you might expect from the published sunset time because of the surrounding tree coverage. That’s something I’ll keep an eye on when planning portraits. We can take advantage of that beautiful light when it appears without making you responsible for watching the clock. The best part is that so many of these locations are close together. We can step away for a few portraits, make something beautiful, and get you right back to the party.

Getting Ready at Rocky Hill Weddings & Events

Rocky Hill has two separate getting-ready suites tucked toward the back of the property, giving each side of the wedding party a comfortable place to settle in before the ceremony. The suites have great windows for natural light, which is always something I appreciate as a photographer. Beautiful window light creates opportunities for getting-ready portraits without needing to leave the room. And having everyone get ready on-site means less time traveling between locations and more time enjoying the morning with your favorite people.

Planning Your Rocky Hill Wedding

One thing I appreciated about photographing a wedding at Rocky Hill was how smoothly everything came together. The property has distinct spaces for different parts of the celebration, and the venue team did a great job keeping everything moving.

Vendors & Coordination

Rocky Hill allows couples to bring in their own vendors, which gives you the freedom to build a team that fits your vision for the day. A day-of coordinator is required, and I can absolutely see the value in having someone oversee the transitions between ceremony, cocktails, dinner, and dancing.

The venue manager at the wedding I photographed was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and clearly on top of everything happening throughout the day. It’s always a pleasure working alongside people who care about creating a great experience for everyone.

Parking & Guest Experience

Rocky Hill has on-site parking in gravel lots up the hill from the main event spaces. There was plenty of parking available at the wedding I photographed, and arriving at the property was straightforward.

Once guests arrive, they can settle in for the entire celebration. The ceremony deck, cocktail patio, reception hall, and outdoor gathering spaces are all on the same property, so there’s no need to travel between locations as the day unfolds.

I especially love that guests have options throughout the evening. Some can be on the dance floor while others catch up around the firepit. It gives everyone room to enjoy the wedding in their own way, which is exactly what makes a celebration feel personal.

Who Rocky Hill Is Perfect For

If you love the idea of getting married in the forest but want a setting that feels polished and thoughtfully maintained, Rocky Hill is worth a visit. The ceremony deck gives you that incredible surrounded-by-trees experience, while the gardens and manicured lawns create a beautiful backdrop for a celebration that feels intentional and personal.

I especially love Rocky Hill for couples who want their wedding to feel like a really good party. There’s room for dinner, an outdoor dance floor, lawn games, and late-evening conversations around the firepit. Your guests can move between spaces and enjoy the evening however they like. And if you have a strong creative vision, there’s plenty of opportunity to make the property your own. I would love to see someone bring unexpected color into the ceremony design, lean into the industrial reception space, or create something really fun around that outdoor patio.

Rocky Hill has some genuinely memorable spaces. With a little personality and a great group of people, you could throw an incredible wedding here.
